Fees for Mowing Nuisance Properties

Mary Jane Adams of Middletown maryj@cityofmiddletown.org asks:

How are others pricing the mowing of nuisance lots? Do they name their price or so much per hour? I would like some feed back on other cities and how it works for them.

The Village of Russells Point charges $500.00 (plus the cost of abatement) each time we must enter a property to abate any Zoning or Property Maintenance Code violation. We copied this ordnance from another City's Codified Ordinance. As a result we are no longer in the lawn care business.

The City of Clayton charges 75.00 plus a 50.00 administration fee if the bill is not paid within 30 days.

Make it a great day in Clayton :-)

Dear Sherri, thanks for comment. Do you mean $75.00 for any size lot?

In the city of Fostoria we charge $150.00 per hour. Unfortunatley we are still mowing many more lots than I would like.

    Mary Jane......
In Miamisburg, we use several local contractors on a rotating basis. They almost always mow within 48 hrs. after notification, and charge us between $75 and $92 per hour (last year's rates). We pass that through and add a $250 admin fee on the invoice. Pay in 30 days or we assess to taxes.

Our City crew mows at $125/hr. We will send out 1 letter per year. After that, Greater than 10" will be cut automatically if reported by a citizen.
